Polystyrene foam food-ware and single use plastics are a major source of litter and one of the top items we find on our regular beach cleanups. The Sebastian Inlet Chapter seeks to ban polystyrene foam food-ware on all City of Satellite Beach City facilities, City events and City-sponsored special events at City facilities.
The Florida Legislature has taken away the ability of cities and counties to ban polystyrene in all areas except municipal property. That's why our Sebastian Inlet Chapter is working with the City of Satellite Beach to ban polystyrene foam food-ware and single use plastics on all city properties and at city events. This is a first, but important step for Satellite Beach to take in reducing plastic pollution.
On July 17th, City of Satellite Beach Mayor and Commissioners voted to pass a resolution, vowing to stop using single use plastic and foam materials at all city-owned parks, facilities, venues and permitted events, diverting tons of waste from landfills.
