St. Petersburg Straw Ordinance

The City of St. Petersburg, Florida is exploring a single use plastic straw ordinance. If implemented, single use plastic straws will be eliminated from this City.

In 2014, our Suncoast Chapter started advocating for a plastic straw ordinance in St. Pete. The reduction of plastic straws helps to decrease the need for fossil fuels, which are used for these wasteful and lightweight single use plastics which often end up as litter in our marine environments. On December 14th, we had a VICTORY! as the Mayor and Commissioners voted to pass a single use plastic straw ordinance in the City.
