The goal is to have the City of Stuart pass and implement a single use plastic straw ordinance within all the city limits to compliment their City Property ordinance and beach side property ordinance. This will help keep single use plastic straws from entering our marine environment.
In 2019, our Treasure Coast Chapter activists began advocating for a plastic straw ordinance in Stuart. The reduction of plastic straws helps to decrease the need for fossil fuels, which are used for these wasteful and lightweight single use plastics which often end up as litter in our marine environments.
On October 28th, 2019, the city voted to pass the ordinance!
